Welcome to Amharic Wikipedia! I hope you enjoy improving and editing this Wikipedia project. These pages are especially useful for those who are literate in Amharic. However, even experienced Wikipedians who don't know any Amharic have helped out with other things, like 'Interwikis' and updating images from Commons, etc. So don't be afraid to improve the wiki any way you can! Remember, someone else can always come later and fix any changes you make that are not perfect.

You can set your own language for the interface at Special:Preferences. Just scroll in the box where it says 'am - አማርኛ' until you see your language, then click the ይቆጠብ (save) button at the bottom!

Feel free to use our Sandbox to make test edits. If you want to talk with other members in general, for now you can use the Village pump. Sign your name on any Talk pages by just typing '~~~~' (four tildes) at the end of your message.

If you have any questions about anything, don't hesitate to ask on my or another administrator's Talk page. Happy editing! With regards,

Dear Octahedron,

You have indicated that you have "zero"" fluency in the Amharic language.

Unless you become fluent in the Amharic language beforehand, there is really no point to your tagging any articles written in Amharic for deletion, regardless of what you think about their size or purpose, in a language you do not speak at all.

Thank you for cooperation. ፈቃደ (ውይይት) 08:49, 23 ማርች 2016 (UTC)Reply

Dear Octahedron

Please do not continue to bark up the wrong tree so there will not be any problem here caused by you

Yes, there are actually individuals in some countries who imagine they should dictate what happens in languages they do not speak or understand. This can only be described as "linguistic neo-coloniaism", which is much like neo-colonialism, but even more philistine , hare-brained, and unbright. someone who does not know the first thing about Ethiopian history, customs, or attitudes, but blindly wants to impose his aesthetics on an "inferior" language he doesnt bother to speak, is going to have particular problems with Amharic. `ፈቃደ (ውይይት) 11:56, 23 ማርች 2016 (UTC)Reply

That is great that you are learning the alphabet. It is never too late to learn, nor is there any hurry! If you persevered enough you could even become an admin here some day, I think that would require a major life effort and some immersion to become that fluent within a few years, but such things are possible within the realm of human endeavor. Good luck! ፈቃደ (ውይይት) 13:04, 23 ማርች 2016 (UTC)Reply
