User:Jasper Deng, User:AmaryllisGardener: There is only one obvious solution to the wikidata confusion with Watermelon articles, and I've already described it briefly at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Talk:Q29401270#Just_another_heading , but was mostly ignored, and instead Brya has split the articles up and isolated them even further.

The one obvious solution is:

"Put all like articles about the same topic on the same page."

All watermelon articles fall into four different topics, that should be placed on four pages, Amharic now has three of them.

  • 1. The bitter, white-flesh, South African melon species / cultivar.

We can get these out of the way first - there are two such articles and no one has even suggested a reason why they are not interlinked: en:Citron melon, and af:Tsamma. These should both be on the same page, not split to two different pages as under the current system.

  • 2. The article explaining that there are basically these two types of melon species / cultivar.

Three wikipedias now have this article: en:Citrullus lanatus, sco:Citrullus lanatus, and am: በጢሕ. These three should all be together on one page, as they are, but without most of the others.

  • 3. The article for the fruit itself (not the sweet species / cultivar, just the fruit thereof itself)

am: መሐሌ would go here, a couple of others clearly about fruit or culinary topic and not about the species can go here, but not most of the others, certainly not en:Watermelon
